• If you are moving furniture around while cleaning you can avoid scuffing your floors by folding and placing two clean towels under each end of the piece of furniture and simple slide it across the floor. Martha Stewart has this and other great tips in her Clever Spring Cleaning Tricks article.
• Getting your closet in order can help to motivate you to follow suit in the rest of your home. House Beautiful suggests you get rid of unused clothes and accessories, and organize the rest by how you get dressed in the morning and by color.
• In our busy lives we sometimes only have short period of time to get our house in order and sometimes you just have to multitask. If you wash or place dirty dishes in the dishwasher as you are preparing a meal you will not have to deal with a sink full of pots and dishes at the end of a meal!. The Today Show has this and some other tips on daily to do’s that don’t take too long.
• Whether donating items or saving them for a sale, Good Housekeeping suggests to package them now in clearly marked boxes that can be stored until yard sale season starts, or until you have time to visit your local charity drop-off center.
• Save money on buying new cleaning towels and sponges by assigning a color to each room and surface in your house, and dedicate a microfiber rag and sponge of the same color to it. You won’t need to toss those sponges because you can’t remember where they were last used and you will avoid cross-contamination.

Here are some of the weirdest items found in storage units:

3,000 Year Old Seeds. Archeologists uncovered an ancient storage unit in China, from the Zhou and Shang dynasties and what did they discover?  Seeds that were still fresh and able to be used.  They included almond, melon, millet, grass and other various types of seeds.

A dinosaur skull: Actor Nicholas Cage was actually in a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio over a Tarbosaurus skull that was found at a local self storage facility.

Never-released Michael Jackson Tracks. Joe Jackson owned a storage unit that was claimed by the storage facility after failure to pay rent.  Inside it were unrecorded tracks, including some recordings with Tina Turner.  These were from a period where Michael Jackson was between contracts, so the winning bidder was able to legally claim them.

24 Hour Rule. Buyers usually have around 24 hours to clear out the purchased unit.
